Hello! I'm Charlie Harding
I’m a software engineer for QAware, based in Munich, Germany. I studied Computer Science at the University of Bristol.
My main technical interests are in frontend development and digital mapping. In my free time, I like spending time in the mountains: hiking, running, road cycling and skiing.
Below are some of my work and creations. For on-going projects, check out my GitHub.

My Projects
- Activity Map — powered by Strava, a tool for viewing all recorded Strava activities and planned routes on one map, with options for filtering activities. This uses Mapbox and the Strava API.
- Hiking with Charlie — a quick view of all hikes I am organising/have organised through Hiking Buddies. Originally created in order to provide short links with improved link previews for social media.
- UBES Walks — a resource for members of the University of Bristol Expeditions Society to find accessible local walks during the corona lockdowns of 2020-21.
- AirGestures — an app created for the ICHack 2018 as part of Team Limoncello. It allows a user to control their computer using gestures in the air.
- charding.dev — this site: a static site using its own site builder written in Ruby and built on top of HAML.

My Organisations
- Hiking Buddies Munich — hiking group in Munich for which I am a regular organiser. I helped with the development of the group’s mobile app (React Native).
- University of Bristol Expeditions Society — student walking and climbing group. I have served as Expeditions Officer, Webmaster and walk leader.
My Designs
- Asian Highway Network Map — a transit-style map of the Asian Highway Network, inspired by Cameron Booth’s E-Road map. January 2017
- Great Western Railway Network Map — a redesign of the newly rebranded Great Western Railway Network Map. Summer 2016
